{snow excursion #1}

for the day.

The boys just got out of a hot tub of water after coming back
in for some snow play.

E:  "Mom, can we stay in our pj's all day??"
Me:  "yes, Evan."
E:  "Yay!  This is great!  It feels just like December!
You know, the snow, the hot chocolate {we haven't had
any quite yet} and pj's all day long. We finally got
to have December!"

Love, love, love the little things. :)

Because in two days it will be summer as we
will hit thunderstorms and 60 degree weather.

{snow day: 3,245}

or so it seems.

I think today's snow would have been enjoyed if
the boys had been well enough to go outside and
play.  They didn't even ask.  That explains how bad
they still feel.  BUT, they are both doing better.
If we can make it to the wee hours of the morning
without fever, we will finally meet our 24-hour fever
free goal.

This was what I found when I opened my door this morning.
I had no clue it was coming.  The last I knew, we had a 30% chance
for Monday.  Today completely caught me off guard.

 So, since we couldn't go outside.  What did we do............

build a Gingerbread House!  {JC should be proud, it is still standing!!}

 After my Halloween Haunted House debacle, I didn't even pull out the Gingerbread House for Christmas.  Too many flashbacks to toothpicks and laughs.  But, today between all of the baking {why do I feel the need to bake when it snows} I thought I would give the boys something fun to do and occupy for a bit.

 notice Evan's decorating skills.  He is THROWING candy on it.  Nice.
At least they had fun!  Now, I need to go sweep up red sprinkles!!

There's nothing wrong with a Christmas GB House in February, right?
Or, I can just say I'm ahead of the rest and it's just early for
December 2011,  ha!

{getting ready}

I've purchased all of the seeds for spring.

I think.

I'm going to start some of them inside over the next few weeks.

Although, I love snow.

I'm looking forward to the carefree, simple days of summer.

In a big way.

{a perfect winters day}

i can hear the boys giggling in the front yard.

fresh cinnamon rolls hot out of the oven and paula deen's dreamy creamy hot chocolate {with a tweak or two} simmering on the stove.

the fireplace is roaring.

definitely a pj-clad kind-of day!

{spring break 2010}

we started off with a bang. or, i guess i should say a blizzard.

the last few days were a blur anyway. and, i didn't watch garrett. when they were mentioning the weather at a wedding on saturday, i didn't pay too much attention. they talked about a dusting to possibly two inches which typically equates to zilch for us.

for months, i had been looking forward to hearing a speaker that would be at church sunday morning. i hoped out of bed and put my eggo into the toaster. about 45 seconds later, no power. hmmmm.....i looked outside the window. UNBELIEVABLE! we called my in-laws as i was still determined to make it to church (they did have electricity) but, no cars were out on the highway in front of their house. scott grounded me. i have a history with driving and snow. not a good one.

i was soooooooo disappointed! but, when i opened my front door and saw this....it didn't last too incredibly long. amazing. hadn't it just been 70 degrees two days prior?

the boys barely survived the approximate 13 hours without electricity. they would have never made it in the frontier days. ever. we bundled up, sat by our fire, played lots of games and cards. it was perfect for me. scott had a horrendous headache - likely from the weather.
and, today, we woke up to sunshine! it's a muddy, muddy mess out there. and, thankfully the boys are wanting to do a little of nothing this week - they actually want to be home. we will see how long that lasts! :)
think i'm ready to look at condos for vacation!

{i survived}

I braved the elements. TH, look at my zebra print rain boots. You'll see what is under them at the end of this post ;)

total winter wonderland. who could blame them? all of a sudden, it didn't seem quite as cold. they loved it!
as of now, they have not finished mr. frosty. they were too distracted with snowballs! we have no snowman with perfect snowman-building snow!
mr. aspen. poor guy could not see a thing without his glasses. way too bright for his blue eyes.

evan did not expect that much snow to come out of the tree when he shook it.

noah decided to join in. evan cleared the area! e hated getting snow in his face....

see below, more snow in the face. not a happy camper. he didn't mind rolling in it, laying in it, falling in it....but, not the face.
snow.in.the.face......

noah now wants to go mountain climbing in the snow in colorado....ha!

evan was mesmerized by the icicles and actually tried to sneak some in. that would have been fun!
e

joy anyone? it was pure bliss for the boys! wow, it is soooo about the little things.

ahhh...for some reason i just LOVE this picture of E....

I used my pocket camera as I had to wear Noah's gloves {hands could not move} and I was very fearful of flying snowballs {how easily the boys forget the rules, like don't throw a snowball when they are finally in snowball heaven. that would be total cruelty. thus, i did not place that pressure on them :) let the snowballs fly! and, they did!} and i went down once. only once. my little blue camera has been through it in its short little life with us. so quality is terrible, but, there were no worries - so, we had fun. ;)

noah busted it just after this was snapped. as did evan. they get my grace!

the blue eyes and bright whether by snow or sun = squints. he could barely hold his eyes open poor thing.

Homemade ice cream and hot chocolate! What a combination. Noah said at least 10 times, this was THE best day of his life. Evan was calculating how much money we could make if we gathered up all the snow and sold the ice cream at Wally World.

And, it's the above socks that kept all right within the snowball fight! at least they kept my toes warm!

it actually wasn't too terribly bad afterall, I must say! i "froze" many moments in my heart while out there in {my} less than ideal circumstances. we are warming up for now. the pile of clothes is growing. we will be heading back out again soon.....
